Company History

Plasma Antennas Ltd is an independent, high tech 'start-up' with a mandate to research and develop solid state plas76 devices and antennas for civil and defence applications.

The Company was founded in August 2000 by Dr Hayes and the Directors of ESL, a successful company working on engineering products for the defence industry. Plasma Antennas was granted a DTI SMART Award (Feasibility Study) in February 2001, as a result of which BAE SYSTEMS is sponsoring Plasma Antennas to perform a 50-50 BEACON Programme (proposed by Plasma Antennas) with QinetiQ to investigate one particular class of plas76 antenna for defence applications.

In 2002 Plasma Antennas acquired Accentus’ Microsystems and Sensors Department which gave the Company a unique capability not only to design but also to fabricate and process solid state plas76 devices. As part of the acquisition a Europractice contract to fund the marketing of microsystems technology (MST) throughout the EU was transferred.
